in sixth grade girls and boys do not think about their future spouse – they have crushes and write each other’s names on their pencil cases. so when travis, born and raised a texan, met laura, a canadian/american who moved from minnesota to dallas, they did not eye each other as a potential soul mate in grade six.

laura and travis attended homecoming and senior prom together as friends, and they nurtured their long distnace friendship with phone calls and the occasional visit.

the summer of 2006 was “a great one” as laura and travis spoke more frequently and then created “perfect weekend” visits between raleigh and ft. lauderdale. after one year of distance dating travis moved to florida. they lived in the same county, dating for an additional year.

having spent every single summer of her life at the family cottage on the rideau in elgin, on., it was important for laura to get ready at, and be married near, the place she most calls home.

although the forecast called for thunderstorms, the skies proved to be blue and cloudy, and the temperature warm.

the details of laura and travis' wedding day were incredibly intentional, down to the tie clips that the groomsmen wore (a nod to laura's grandfather, since passed, who was a massey-ferguson dealer in the 1980's), and laura's veil, part of it her mother's.

laura kept a journal of letters to ‘her future husband’ that she had been writing since high school. she wrote them with the thought that she might give them to her husband on their wedding day – not knowing then, travis would be the recipient. these journals were given to travis by laura's maid-of-honour just before the ceremony.

one highlight of the reception included laura's first dance - with her father. together they danced and watched projected old photos of the two of them throughout her childhood.
